Camp Fife

Summer Camp 2003

Here are the pictures.

And here's a letter from one of the parents. Worth commemorating!

We left Portland after 9:00 am. 26 boys in all. I carried 6. The three boys from Lucky patrol woke up 3.5 hours later just in time for Lunch at the top of Mt Rainier. It was a pretty spot to stop. Lucky patrol went back to sleep until 1:30 or 2:00 when we arrived at camp. 26 boys made it to camp.

The boys got the two hour orientation walk. The lady at the trading post was like a prison guard. No Refunds for any reason and if she finds any candy wrappers on the ground she is closing the trading post for the week. Don't lean on the rifle range fence or you face the wrath of the rifle instructor. And if you walk on 'his' dirt in the wrong spot on the common ground you have to go back to your tent before you can shoot. The horse gate was being repaired so we promised we wouldn't go past the imaginary gate or the boys get sent home. Then the swim 'guards' made them swim 6 laps in the pool. Those guards had sticks to beat the swimmers. Barry got knocked silly.

The camp is on the edge of the National Park where the trees have not been managed. Disease wiped out 2/3rds of the camp and they did some heavy duty clear cutting this year so the camp is not in great shape. On the other hand you don't have to worry about a dead tree falling on the boys. Facilities are a little more primitive than what we are used to but the food looked great. The cook actually said hi to me. Allergies and Vegetarians will be handled.

Just a note to let you know that all boys were accounted for before I left and all of them looked happy. It is going to be over 100 this week.
